Paralegal - Litigation

Farleigh Wada Witt, a multi-practice, mid-sized law firm located in downtown Portland, Oregon, is seeking an experienced litigation paralegal to join the team. The ideal candidate has great attention to detail, and the ability to exhibit sound judgment and well-reasoned decisions.  

Position Overview

A successful paralegal will be responsible for assisting attorneys with litigation related matters, processes, case files and more. You are naturally proactive, organized, and an excellent communicator who thrives in a fast-paced environment. Primary responsibilities will include assisting attorneys in the preparation and management of case files, conducting legal research, drafting documents (pleadings, motions, and other related documents), and preparing for depositions and trials. This role requires a strong understanding of the legal processes and protocols.

Responsibilities:

• Discovery: tracking, managing, organizing, and analyzing discovery material from multiple sources, and anticipating future discovery needs
• Compiling trial materials, managing exhibits, preparing forms, drafting letters, creating notebooks, etc.
• Managing and becoming an expert in our document management system and discovery review software
• Tracking and docketing court and other deadlines, and prioritizing accordingly
• Drafting, formatting, filing, and ordering service of pleadings, motions, and briefs
• Learning and adapting to Attorney needs in preparing for depositions, hearings, and trials
• Collaborating with Attorneys and staff to keep cases moving
• Developing expertise in relevant state and federal court procedures and rules
• Supervising and delegating to legal assistants when appropriate
• Use of ShareFile or similar systems to transmit large volumes of documents electronically

 Required:

• Experience as a paralegal in litigation
• Aptitude and desire to work primarily in various areas of litigation, and support other areas of law within our Firm (loan documentation, collections, foreclosures, and estate planning)
• Knowledge of Oregon and Washington court procedures and rules
• Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite and other applicable computer programs required to manage the practice
• Ability and willingness to become an expert in electronic document management systems
• Well organized, efficient, and resourceful
• Ability to conduct comprehensive document reviews to ensure legal compliance and accuracy

 Preferred Knowledge and Qualifications:

• Five years of experience as a litigation paralegal
• College degree
• Training or education in a certified paralegal program
• Client service approach
• Detail oriented
• Good interpersonal skills
• Team oriented
• Technology savvy
• Strong time management skills

This is a full-time salaried, non-exempt, Monday – Friday position. We offer a 37.5 workweek, competitive pay and benefits, and a team-oriented environment.  Hybrid opportunities may be available after completion of successful training period.
