Position Summary
The Third Judicial District Attorney’s Office is seeking a Senior Legal Assistant to provide advanced administrative and legal support to attorneys and staff. This position plays an important role in case preparation, document management, and coordination with internal staff and external agencies. This is an advanced-level position within the legal support series and may include supervisory responsibilities.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare legal documents, pleadings, and general correspondence
- Perform advanced data entry and case updates in the Case Management System (CMS)
- Assist attorneys with trial preparation, including organizing case materials
- Maintain calendars and coordinate court settings and deadlines
- Attend court hearings as needed to support case activities
- Prepare, organize, and maintain case files
- Communicate with courts, law enforcement, and other external agencies
- Contact witnesses and provide customer service to the public
- Assist with general office administrative functions
- Train, support, and may supervise other legal support staff
- Perform other related duties as assigned
Minimum Qualifications
- High school diploma or GED
- Three (3) years of work experience in a related field
Preferred Qualifications
- Four (4) years of work experience and/or education in a related field
- Experience working in a legal or criminal justice environment
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Working knowledge of the criminal justice system
- Strong organizational and time management skills
- Proficiency in word processing and spreadsheet applications
- Ability to prepare, review, and proofread legal documents
- Experience with case management systems and electronic filing (e-filing)
- Effective communication and customer service skills
- Ability to follow established policies and procedures
- Ability to assist in training or supervising staff
Working Conditions
Work is performed in an office environment. Some physical activity and limited travel may be required.
