The Legal Assistant supports the Credit Union's goals, values and philosophy by exhibiting the following behaviors: excellence, quality member service, commitment and accountability. As a member of the Credit Union's Legal team, performance includes demonstration of the following accountabilities: communication, job knowledge, teamwork, professionalism and quality member service.
Job Responsibilities
Provides administrative support for Legal Department, including, but not limited to: enters new cases in case management software; posts payments and delivers checks to branch staff; pulls credit card and account statements; orders supplies; reviews and submits invoices to supervisor; runs various reports; and updates team folders and legal tracking spreadsheet to ensure accuracy.
Receives all incoming bankruptcy notices and performs bankruptcy checklist for each case.
Pulls documentation for subpoena and levy responses. Reviews and respond to credit disputes.
Processes and distributes bankruptcy dismissal and discharge notices. Prepares and files all member reaffirmation agreements. Reviews accounts for surrender and prepares and files proofs of claim.
Assists paralegals with gathering information of collections cases assigned to third party vendors.
Performance Measurements:
1. To maximize the collection and/or recovery of credit union assets from accounts in Legal.
2. To maintain accurate and complete records of all activity related to Legal cases.
3. To maintain confidentiality of all credit union legal matters.
4. Maintains appointment calendars efficiently.
5. Adhere to all Credit Union Policies/Procedures and Regulatory Requirements.QualificationsExperience: One year to three years of similar or related experience.
Education: A high school education or GED
Interpersonal Skills: Work normally involves contacts with persons beyond immediate associates generally regarding routine matters for purposes of giving or obtaining information which may require some discussion. Outside contacts take the form of service to the public (members or vendors) requiring ordinary courtesy in providing assistance and information.
