Position Overview
We are seeking a detail-oriented and organized Legal Assistant to support attorneys with administrative and legal tasks in a fast-paced law firm environment. The ideal candidate will possess strong communication skills, excellent attention to detail, and the ability to manage multiple priorities while maintaining confidentiality.
Responsibilities
- Prepare, proofread, and format legal documents, correspondence, pleadings, and contracts.
- Manage attorney calendars, schedule meetings, depositions, hearings, and court appearances.
- File legal documents electronically with state and federal courts.
- Maintain and organize case files, client records, and legal databases.
- Communicate professionally with clients, courts, opposing counsel, and vendors.
- Coordinate document collection, discovery materials, and case-related records.
- Conduct basic legal and factual research as directed by attorneys.
- Track deadlines and ensure timely completion of filings and legal documentation.
- Assist with billing, time entry, expense reports, and other administrative functions.
Qualifications
- Associate's or Bachelor's degree preferred.
- 2 years of experience as a Legal Assistant, Litigation Assistant, or related legal support role.
- Experience supporting attorneys in a law firm or corporate legal department.
- Knowledge of New Jersey court procedures and e-filing systems preferred.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Outlook, Excel, PowerPoint).
- Experience with legal practice management and document management software.
- Strong organizational, multitasking, and time-management skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion.
Preferred Qualifications
- Experience supporting litigation, employment law, public law, real estate, corporate, or trust and estates practices.
- Familiarity with court rules, legal terminology, and document preparation.
- A paralegal certificate is a plus but not required.
