Haight Brown & Bonesteel LLP is currently seeking a Manager of Accounting and Finance to join our mid-size firm in our office located in downtown Los Angeles, CA.
The candidate will oversee accounting personnel and ensure a culture of communication, mentoring, and team work within the group, engage in meaningful interaction with staff and the management team, and exhibit leadership skills within the organization such as initiative, dedication to firm, excellence in work, high standards, motivating, and desire to gain more knowledge of the firm.
The candidate will be responsible for overseeing existing financial systems, developing and implementing new systems, administering and optimizing the firm’s Elite 3E financial platform, managing the law firm’s monthly client invoicing process, handling all accounts payable & receivable, ensuring compliance with trust account and banking rules, preparing monthly financial statements, analyzing financial data, monitoring expenses, managing cash, preparing forecasts and budgets, coordinating any review or audit processes with CPA firm, responding to audit requests and billing inquiries from clients, insurance carriers, and regulators, ensuring the accuracy of the firm’s financial information, and providing actionable information (primarily financial and operational in nature) about firm activities that will assist the firm’s Managing Partner and the firm’s Equity Partners in making educated economic decisions about the firm’s future.
The candidate must have the following qualifications:
1. CPA is required and an MBA is a plus
2. Significant hands-on experience with Elite 3E (minimum 3 years), including billing, accounts receivable, general ledger, and reporting; experience with 3E implementations, upgrades, or cloud migration is a strong plus
3. Demonstrated experience handling audit requests from clients, insurance carriers, and regulators, including legal-fee audits, e-billing compliance reviews, trust account audits, and responses to regulatory inquiries
4. At least 5 years previously working in a law firm
5. At least 8 years previous experience in an accounting environment
6. Complete understanding of financial statements and the accounting process
7. Knowledge of various software programs, data analysis programs, and the internet
8. Word and Excel skills required
