Legal Assistant
Position Summary:
First Liberty Institute’s Legal Assistant is responsible for assisting the Legal Team with key aspects of legal cases and documentation, working with volunteer attorneys and clients, and representing First Liberty Institute in a professional manner.
Responsibilities:
- Provide legal support to attorneys, paralegals and clients
- Maintain legal files and databases
- Prepare correspondence and legal documents
- Schedule meetings, court appearances and depositions
- Assist attorneys in preparing for trial, hearings, travel, etc.
- Run conflicts regarding potential cases
- Case file organization
- Review invoices received on client cases for accuracy
- Keep track of and calendar case deadlines
- Assist with requests for legal help and tracking same
- Update and maintain internal databases
- Other duties as assigned
Requirements:
- Must agree with and sign First Liberty’s Articles of Faith
- College degree preferred
- Proficient with Microsoft Office Suite
- A firm understanding of the defense of religious freedoms
- Outstanding verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to engage and serve a variety of attorneys and clients
- Time management and prioritization
- Attention to detail
- Legal software proficiency
- Legal terminology proficiency
- Understanding of court structure
- Problem-solving skills
- Ability to function well in a high-paced and at times stressful environment
- Able to handle security-sensitive information, maintain client confidentiality and ethics
- Critical thinking and problem solving
- Ability to understand state and federal law regarding preparation and filing of legal documents
- Strong organization skills
Physical Requirements:
- Prolonged periods of sitting at a desk and working on a computer
- Ability to stand and walk around as needed during course work
